SDSU Fights Hunger is full swing!

Help alleviate hunger in San Diego County. Beat UCSD, USD, and CSU San Marcos. Show the community that SDSU cares as “SDSU Fights Hunger”.

These are all things the Associated Students (AS) hopes to as it participates in the county-wide “College Rocks Hunger” competition. AS has partnered with the San Diego Food Bank to help the organization be able to feed those San Diegan’s who do not have the means to buy the meals they need.

SDSU students will compete with University of San Diego, University of California, San Diego and CSU San Marcos between October 6-22 in a friendly competition in which each of the universities is trying to collect the most pounds of food for the drive.

Students and others who wish to donate non-perishable food items at SDSU will be able to place them in red collection bins that will be placed across the campus at the numerous locations, including:

  • Residence Halls
  • Student Life and Leadership
  • Administration Offices
  • AS Facilities (such as Aztec Center; Aztec Recreation Center; SDSU Childrens Center)
  • Athletics Building
  • Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center
  • Aztec Market Convenience Stores
  •  Love Library
  • Viejas Arena during the Alice in Chains and Maroon 5 Concerts
  • Qualcomm Stadium during the SDSU Homecoming Game on October 16.

At the Aztec Market convenience store locations, people may select and pay for items to donate from a form and submit it to the cashier. Aztec Market staff will submit the orders and ensure they are delivered to the Food Bank.

Student organizations that would like to collectively donate food from their membership may make arrangements for an AS member to visit the organization’s meeting or office to pick up the bulk donation.

People are already starting to fill up bins across campus!

As part of the competition, the winning university will be recognized by Mayor Jerry Sanders in a press conference. Also, the Hard Rock Hotel has donated a guitar that will be held by the winning school and will be passed on each year to whichever university wins the competition.

The San Diego Food Bank feeds more than 340,000 people per month throughout San Diego County. The organization hands out over 1-million pounds of food each year. The programs of the Food Bank help all sorts of people, including families, the elderly, and children.

Look for the red bins around campus to make your donations and help SDSU Fight Hunger!
